The cottage is now closed for the season

Yep... the parents went up and left me in charge of the cats. Cats don't like this for some reason. Meh, they'll get over it.

I spent the day plotting and planning as usual. The cats? who knows? They likely did the same but are waiting for their moment of opportunity. So, I guess we're not all that different. Could be good, could be bad... I dunno!

Parents said they had Turkey for dinner at a friend's place - to which I replied, "anyone I know?"...

Better they had the bird THERE and not here. Could've been messy. Anyway, Mum's off to write her paper and I'm going to find something else to take apart, spindle, mutilate - the usual.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! (At least I'm safe now!)

The week's not over yet but...

It's been a busy one! Mum said that this is the last weekend at the cottage for the season. Drat! I really like going up there. I'm not sure what this 'season' business is all about, really. I guess I'm about to find out.

My kitty sisters know something's up. Their coats seem heavier and they're less bouncy. And it gets so dark so fast! Its dark in the morning too while my parents are getting ready to go to wherever it is they disappear to during the day. But I still sing my guts out regardless... I guess I'm just a rebel at heart!

I bet the kitties know what's going on with the darkness and the like. I'll bet they know and they're just not telling! Typical cats - always keeping others out of the loop.

Speaking of which I surprised the daylights out of Seshat yesterday. I was sitting on the back of Mum' desk chair - I think she was at class - and Seshat tried to jump up on the little pedestal behind her chair...heh! (I was too, but I wasn't gonna let her know that...) Was she surprised! Ha! Being kept out of the loop can work both ways. Don't I know it?

But try telling that to cats - here's a hint - you can't! You can't tell those furballs anything. Heck, they won't even buy it if it comes from another cat. And they call ME stubborn - JUST because I like to chew stuff and don't know the meaning of 'no' - nor can I spell it - I'm stubborn! Well, la-de-da!

At least dogs are gullible - you can tell them anything and they'll just go "A-yup! sure! Now throw me the darn ball, will ya".

Too funny.

I'll never get furkids - they just don't make any darned sense.

I've learned to wolf-whistle....

Ok, neither Mum nor Dad taught me this but apparently I'd pretty darned good at it. Loud 'n' proud, I say! I have no idea where I learned this - I mean, it' s not like I hang out around construction sites. :-)

Freaked out Mum when she was getting ready for work - she was walking down the hall just adjusting her blazer when I let one rip. (I think it boosted her ego a tad).

Anyway, learning new sounds and hearing new voices is pretty darned cool if you asked me. I had a great time last Saturday listening to the guests chatting at our potluck. I was so lucky though I got to stay with the girls while the 'menfolk' sat on the deck and grilled... Good thing chicken wasn't on the menu, though!

Yay! I'm going to the cottage today!

With only two weeks left to hit the cottage - dang, I'm gonna miss it over the winter - I hope to up tonight with Dad. Mum's hitching a ride with some friends after work.

I love it up there. Lots of trees, other furry and feathery friends to meet and talk to. People are friendly up there as well and I think the parents really like it as it's a great place to de-stress - whatever THAT is.

The only stress I have is deciding upon what I'm gonna chew on next. I have a pretty easy life, let me tell ya! Well, I guess I do have some stress - I get pretty antsy waiting for Mum and Dad to come home so they can take me out of my cage and make much of me - cuz I'm a suck. Well that's what they say, anyway.

I dunno if I'm a suck or not - I just love the attention and try to be affectionate and kissy-kissy back - cuz humans love that stuff!

Day 2 in the Blogosphere

Wow! Lots of posts yesterday and today. Very cool. I'm sure mum will be happy her efforts aren't in vain. We're both getting a kick out of reading the IMPLIED feline invasion. (insert maniacal laugh here).

I'm curious, though as I am new to this blogging concept about other people's reasons for keeping them. Any one wanna toss me a peanut's worth of inspiration on that. (Sorry, I loves me my peanuts!)

Anyway, Mum and I are having a blast! I'm learning new words and sounds and well the universe is unfolding as it should - well in my birdy brain anyway.

Mum's thinking about dusting off her Japanese language CDs - I wounder if I can  surprise her and learn a few thinks BEYOND 'hai' and 'domo arigato' - ya know?

My introduction

My name is Hunter... my human parents so named me because my mum is a Hunter S. Thompson fan. But I suspect she also knew that well, for me being me - I am independent and have a wicked sense of humour.

Yes, I am a parrot - an African Grey Parrot to be exact and the parents have never encountered the likes of me before. Well, that's just fine - it means that my plans for world domination will not be interrupted. Ahhahahha! They'll never know what hit 'em.

Sooo... what do I like to do for fun? Well other than learning to imitate other sounds around me, I particularly enjoy dissecting things. Hey, the parents haven't nicknamed me 'Destructo-Bird' for nothing!

But getting back to that imitating thing... it's kinda neat really. I hear stuff and if it gets my attention I just kinda let it umm 'fly' (a little parroty pun there) causing some surprise and amusement with the other critters that share this household.  I almost forgot. My housemates other than the humans include two cats. I especially enjoy letting out a loud 'meow' just to mess them up! They look at each other and wonder which one of them actually 'spoke'.  Silly cats! It was me! All ME! But more on the furballs later...good thing they can't see the computer screen or they'd be annoyed.

Other stuff I like to imitate include barking like a dog. Big deal right? But hey, I'm only 6 months old - name me a human critter that can do that? Didn't think so. :-)

I'm also learning such funky things like context... to humans, apparently, context is EVERYTHING. They go nuts for it. And total mayhem is guaranteed to ensue if context is absent or at worst (gasp!) misconstrued. Heh.

So this is what I did...Mum was playing an online game called World of Warcraft. She's pretty obsessed with it. Probably good therapy after having a tough day at work.  So, there she is, playing away and not having a good time of it and suddenly mutters a naughty word under her breath. So, I, sitting behind her say "What?"
Messed her right up!

And I started laughing - no really! I was laughing and she just kinda looked at me as if to say 'where did you learn to do THAT?'... funny, funny stuff.

What about my Dad? Well he's pretty cool. I like to sit with him and watch telly. Or if he's on the computer all I have to do is start playing with his mouse and he scratches my head. Works EVERY time I tell ya. Dad's a big suck too so I like to cuddle with him and play with his glasses or some such thing.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this blog. My mum wants to be a writer, so I have asked her if she wouldn't mind me dictating. She said sure, so it's all good.

Have a squawking good time and I'll check back in later.
